A Q&A with Found By Cors

Hi! I'm Cors and I'm so happy to welcome you to my second hand store. Read on for my story and how Found By Cors came to life. Plus, some insights on how I find the best second hand pieces and prepare them for their next owner.

What is Found By Cors?
I created Found By Cors to help make building a sustainable secondhand wardrobe more fun, and attainable.  Not everyone wants to (or has time to) dig through thrift stores for hours.  But I do!

I handpick secondhand and vintage clothing, accessories, and homewares with a focus on quality, individuality, and longevity. Things that have already stood the test of time, and still have so much life left in them.

The brand bloomed from my lifelong love of treasure hunting — spending weekends at garage sales with my Nana as a little girl to exploring thrift racks around the world.

I want to help people discover unique pieces that they feel good in.  And feel good knowing that being a part of the circular fashion world is good for the planet! In my opinion, the coolest stuff is timeless, not disposable.

I have a pop up shop opening in Lithgow, NSW, Australia on September 19th and will be launching an online store hand in hand with that, which is so exciting (and a little scary).

What can you expect from Found By Cors?
The essence of Found By Cors is secondhand and vintage for everyday wear. I love to find pieces that can and will be worn over and over and over again, but still feel current and on trend (take that capitalism!!).

How do your Canadian roots (and life in Australia) shape your perspective on style?
More than anything it has shown me that fashion and self expression is a universal experience that we are all so fortunate to have! Growing up in Canada, I learned to layer, mix textures, and to wear the summer dresses while you can! Thrift stores were the best place to experiment with personal style and self expression. Shopping secondhand with my Nana and Mom taught me to see value in pre-loved pieces and the stories they carry. Moving to Australia and bringing that same mentality has only strengthened my curiosity for how different places and cultures manifest in fashion.

What inspired you to turn your passion for thrifting into a business?
In 2021 my best friend decided to try “no new clothes” as a New Year’s resolution (she went on to write an amazing piece about it, read it here!!!). It got me thinking, the majority of my wardrobe was already secondhand, how hard could it be?

I stopped buying new clothes in 2022 and haven’t looked back! It was (mostly) easy, for me, but the more I talked about it with other people the more I realised that wouldn’t be the case for most people. So I thought why not try and make it easier for everyone? The world can feel overwhelming, and I just feel really honoured that something I find so much joy in can help our gorgeous baby girl, mama Earth too!

What do you hope people feel when they wear something you’ve found?
Hot! Sexy! Fun! More like themselves than they have ever felt!

What makes thrifting feel magical to you?
The way my jaw drops when I spot something iconic at the thrift is simply inexplainable!  The fact these things still exist out there and are just WAITING to be found makes me giddy. And to be really honest, this whole experience in creating Found By Cors has me honouring my inner child more than I ever could have imagined, which in itself is magical (I have the album Spice playing as I type this, recommend.)

What’s your process for curating pieces?
I have a big focus on material and fabric composition right now.  About 6 months ago I started really paying attention to what my clothes were made of, and my god once you see it, it is really hard to look away.  Synthetic materials just simply were not used as much in past eras. You can feeeeel the difference miluv!

What's your go-to outfit when you don’t know what to wear?
I never stop reaching for men’s long sleeve button ups.  Something about them is so effortlessly cool and chic.  Over a bathing suit at the beach, jeans and a white tank, with sweatpants at the airport, options are endless miluv!

Thrift tip you swear by?
Patience!

If you could shop with anyone (past/present), who would it be?
Mary Beth Barone & Benito Skinner from @ridethepod and Overcompensating.

Favourite thrift find to date?
My favourite thrift find ever was actually found by my fiancé in 2019.  It’s a 1990s vintage varsity jacket from the bar we both worked at (and fell in love at!) in Whistler, Canada.  This jacket will be passed down for generations, I mean how cool is that?
